How to Reset a Skoda Key
I just received a message from my infotainment system to inform me that the battery for my key is low and requires replacement. This isn't the first time, and the last time I visited an auto shop, they replaced it for free in 2 minutes and said it will work again.

If your car key stops working, it may take a while for a professional to reprogram it. In many cases, the EEPROM is read to find the unique code of the car. This is a risky process, and there's a high chance of corrupting the information in the module. It is best to leave this to a professional locksmith.
An EEPROM (non-volatile) memory is used in a wide variety of electronic devices like car keys. It is a storage device that stores the unique authentication codes as well as encryption keys that your vehicle recognises when you use it to unlock the vehicle or start it. These codes are essential because they inform your car that you are the owner of the key and have the right to drive.
If your EEPROM is damaged it will cause the keys to not work. The problem is usually caused by pressing the wrong key, or by hitting the wrong buttons. You could try to reset it by using a special tool but this method is not guaranteed to work. It is best to work with an expert who has extensive knowledge of programming keys for automobiles.
To reset your EEPROM, you must first remove the Kessy module from the vehicle. This is the module that sits just above the accelerator pedal on the left-hand side of the vehicle. Take off the plastic clip that holds it in place with the help of a screwdriver. After that, disconnect the two electrical connectors and remove it from the vehicle. Then, you can read the EEPROM data with an SOIC8 clip or micro pincers connected to a programmer. To read the EEPROM data, utilize a program like PonyProg and click Read Device. The EEPROM dump will show up as a series of hex characters. There are three distinct values in hex that are the KEY_CODE, key_count and the V_ARG_ENABLED. It is necessary to change all other hex values to 00 to "virginize" the chip. Once you have done this, you can flash the chip and restore its functionality.
Ignition Method
This method requires activating the car's system using another key. It isn't applicable to all vehicles, but it will be able to reset the key fob in case it's not working properly or the battery is dying. It should also work if the buttons have been hit hard (a frequent cause is people trying to press down the unlock button a few times).
To do this, turn on the ignition and then leave it on. Then, mechanically lock the door of the driver's side with another key. Next, set the key fob in the lock position and point it at the transmission transmitter located on the front of the car above mirror. Press and hold the unlock button for a few seconds. The horn will sound, and the key fob will start to work.
If the skoda keys don't work, it could be that the transmitter inside is corrupted or out of alignment with the vehicle's security system. This will require the reprogramming of the device. A locksmith or technician can assist you in this.
If the key fob doesn't seem to be working after reprogramming it, it may be that the car has "forgotten" the key (if the vehicle hasn't used in six months). It is still possible to try the resync method described in the user's guide Remove the cap and lock on the driver's side of the door. Then unlock the car using the key. It should be able to re-synchronize the key, if not, you'll need to visit the dealer. This is typically the case for keys that are not functioning and takes less than 2 minutes.
Keyless Entry Method
The new generation of keyless systems which are present in OCTAVIA vehicles of the present and electric ENYAQ-iV cars, comes with an innovative security feature to protect against thieves "signal extending". The car transmits an alert and the key has to respond within a set time. If the key doesn't respond, the car cannot be locked and will ring its alarms.
The car can also detect that the key is nearby through a sensor on the door handle. This works by sending an electrical signal to the internal coil inside the key, and then sends a signal to the sensor. If the sensor detects it the car is locked, it will unlock itself and activate the interior lights automatically if the key is programmed to do that.
Even older keyless entry systems have an old-fashioned backup. If the remote doesn't work it is still possible to manually open the driver door. You can do this by sliding the blade or, in certain models, pressing a button in the pocket. This method is particularly helpful if your key's battery dies or you have lost it.
Remote Control Method
If you've recently purchased a remote control that isn't working in your vehicle, the seller might not have programmed it to work with your vehicle. It could be that the terminals of the battery are loose (look for this, they might seem a bit loose the touch, and then sometimes soldered in the wrong place) - carefully soldering them back in place should bring your key fob back to full working order. If you're unsure about this type of repair, consult a professional auto technician.
Turn off the ignition, and then lock the vehicle from within with another key that is not matched (this will reset the memory position 1). Enter channel "01" (may be channel "21" in some Audi models). Insert the new keyfob into the driver's door and press the unlock button twice in less than 5 seconds.
Repeat this coding procedure for up to 4 additional remotes - make sure to switch off the ignition before programming each remote. You will hear a sound each time you successfully code the remote.
